DUOPUU is pleased to be engaged in teaching at the Master programme “Architecture of Wooden Buildings - First edition 2018-19” at the Politecnico di Torino, a programme designed with the aim of educating experts for the Italian rising timber construction sector and open to graduates in engineering and architecture. DUOPUU is holding the course “Structural uses of wood: innovation and sustainability” as well as the final class “Timber Building Construction Lab”. The Piazza has always been a special place for Milano Film Festival. Even in the first editions, part of our efforts to organize a film festival was aimed at public spaces. The reason wasn’t clear at the time, at the end of the 1990s. But that's how Esterni and Milano Film Festival have grown together: by taking up and reinventing both familiar and unknown places. For the Milano Film Festival 2018 Dotdotdot multidisciplinary studio designed the spaces and the temporary pavilions of the main square for the 23rd festival edition. DUOPUU together with the designer Johannes Klein collaborated with Dotdotdot to design the square Piazza XXV Aprile and 4 wooden pavilions, from consulting to wooden construction system to the building supervision. Prefabricated CLT panels has been used for a big pavilion and three small ones in order to create new functional spaces quickly and without altering the recently renovated famous square. Well known to Milan's inhabitants, this city square (…) has become a pedestrian crossroads for thousands of people every day. Precisely a crossroads. Today's challenge is to slow down traffic, attract casual passers-by and integrate them with the Festival community: viewers, professionals, directors and actors, guests who hold the square as their daily meeting place. A new space in the city of Bergamo is growing. An MIT/MEL preliminary workshop about "Future Bank Branch" gave to UBI Banca a vision about bank branch innovation. IXD - Innovation by design an international pluridisciplinary design and strategy studio – with the collaboration of the Italian architect Carla Farina – designed the architectonical and user experience solutions for a new landmark that will redefine the relationship between the bank UBI Banca and the local communities through the lens of innovation.
The architectonical and user experience solutions have been implemented into executive design by DUOPUU.
Wood and steel prefabricated structural elements, ecological and natural materials will be used for the interiors to host the technologies and guarantee, at the same time, the integrity of this former classical two-storey carpet shop that will become the new UBI Center for Financial Innovation. DUOPUU – in collaboration with the editor and content manager Giuliano Geri – is working on a new communication program for Gandelli Group, an Italian leader in timber building construction.
With our more than ten-year experience in executive design we are following closely the construction process of Gandelli Group’s strategic projects, offering consultancy, documenting the building phases and preparing diverse communication material, from photography and drawings to copy, in order to provide a comprehensive insight into their innovative sustainable timber construction solutions.
DUOPUU is photographing the main construction phases of the sustainable wooden resort "CampZero" at Champoluc (Aosta) designed by BladIdea architectural office and build by Essepi and Collini Lavori. The hotel is characterized by a system of 2/3-storey modules completely made using the advanced X-Lam prefabricated technique formulated and tested by Essepi. Massive wooden panels with preinstalled wooden windows are built in factory and ready to be transported on site safely and assembled together quickly to form the modules.
DUOPUU is teaching in the Master Carpenter Course carried out by IFP “Pertini” - Trento Professional Training Institute with the support of the Autonomous Province of Trento. Carpenters are involved in the studying of the new construction methods based on wood and in the assemblage of a real scale model of a X-Lam (cross laminated timber) building. DUOPUU designed the new corporate visual identity for Essepi factory, a brand leader in the sustainable buildings sector which specialises in the manufacture of highly energy efficient windows, X-Lam wood massive panels (CLT) and multistory wooden building construction. DUOPUU designed catalogs website, advertising campaigns… working with the photographer Giulio Boem in order to create a poetic atmosphere where the industrial products seem to arise from nature.

Technical consulting concerning the timber structure and the use of wood of a two-storey house into the trees of the Montagnola Senese in the countryside of Siena. Basement, external walls and roof are projected to guarantee a high level of thermal insulation, using only insulation panels made of renewable materials in order to obtain a low energy demand ecological wooden house. DUOPUU collaborated with the Claudia Narenti architectural office for the reconstruction project of an old building in Cesuna – a small town on the Altopiano d’Asiago – using sustainable materials and technics as much as possibile. 100% timber construction system was chosen for economical and environmental reasons. Due to the building elements specific storage and handling difficulties, the executive design included a special prefabricated X-Lam modules system based on wooden massive panels 125 cm (width) x 290 cm (height) x 10 cm (thick) ready to be easily assembled on site. DUOPUU is photographing the main construction phases of a 5-storey ecological wooden building designed by Essepi for the University of Trento. The dorm will house 140 students from all over the world in the highest timber university building ever built in Italy. The structural elements are innovative seismic-resistant prefabricated 3D-cells totally made of XXL cross laminated wood. The 3D-cells built in the factory feature preinstalled Essepi wooden windows, acoustic-thermal insulation panels and internal gypsum board. They are ready to be transported on site safely and assembled together quickly by Collini Lavori.

DUOPUU are designing the new Information Point at Sagron Mis, a small village in the World Heritage Site Trentino Dolomites. An ecological prefabricated wooden module will be located at the foot of the T3 Observation Tower in a true mountain settings between the Paneveggio Nature Park and the Belluno Dolomites National Park. High attention both in quality of building materials and prefabrication process has been considered in order to guarantee module’s energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. MOLE = MODULO LEGGERO is a light-wooden-construction prototype entirely made by 5X8 (cm) timber frame structure, OSB and gypsum-fiber panels, and thermal/acoustic wood fiber board insulation. DUOPUU designed the prototype to test different ways to build small modern and ecological prefabricated wooden houses with good performance in terms of mechanical behavior and building-physics performance, durability and design. MOLE is going to be assembled by the students of "RED-New technologies in green building" course organized by ITS School of Padua with Bertiato Gianluca Construction Company, under the technical supervision of DUOPUU.
At the Opendot fablab, designer Enrico Bassi and DUOPUU held a workshop on the design and construction of a wooden bicycle for kids. Starting from the customization of the basic cut-files Birch plywood panels have been cut, drilled and carved by a CNC Router to obtain all the components of a real bicycle ready to be assembled using simple nuts-bolts and screws. Thnx to Matilde, Martino, Filippo, Rhino, Daniele, Carlo, Fabrizio and everyone at Opendot/Dotdotdot.
